Most of Thailand's population is still rural farm land where families have been rice farmers for generations. However, the urban cities and tourist areas are rapidly changing with new educational and job opportunities. This creates a growing gap between Thai men who are uneducated and unskilled, and the skilled jobs in the changing economy.
Empowering Local Communities through Job Skill Training
The Foundry is bridging this gap by providing training for skilled jobs that create opportunities for Thai men to better provide for their families and provide educational opportunities for their children. In developing and emerging countries like Thailand, job skill training and placement are vital to empower local people to escape poverty, increase job opportunities, transcend new economic classes, and transform the lives of families and communities.
A Sustainable and Scalable Solution
The Foundry is one of three projects under the GEI Thai Foundation, where Thai men and women give a small donation to participate in training and join the professional network to connect with new and ongoing job opportunities. The Foundation also receives suggested donations from local employers who place and employ skilled laborers. The program is sustainable and scalable, creating a lasting impact on the community.
Building on the Success of Bliss Housekeeper Training
The Foundry was started specifically because of the success of the Bliss Housekeeper Training program for Thai women. Over the last 3 years, Bliss has trained over 400 Thai and hill-tribe women, and these women have continued to ask for additional skill training for men. By building on this success, The Foundry is providing opportunities for men to obtain skilled jobs and transform their lives and the lives of their families.
